how do i thank or like

i notice that the mods are able to thank and like a thread.. when they help me i want to return the like and thanks but i dont know how to do it

it is but i cant do nothing with it.. its not a button. for example under captainkangaroo , under moderator , join date, post.. post thanks/likes dont do nothing.. my cursor turns into a finger on your icon but it turns to a straight line on the post thanks/like
