fact is that I try not using my moderator options, even when sometimes called upon... I just type chit instead
If and when moderator is needed then I rely on my fellow staff to do it

I say do nothing and just start typing chit
I hardly close threads.
Unless there is a need, like doubles and stuff
AND unless its a spammer, then full force is always done
BTW...have you guys noticed that no more spammers in last year or so ?
