Penalty report: JGR No. 20 team docked for lug-nut violation at Kansas

NASCAR competition officials handed down penalties to Joe Gibbs Racing’s No. 20 group Tuesday, docking the team for a lug-nut infraction after last weekend’s race at Kansas Speedway.

At-track officials discovered one lug nut not safely secured on the No. 20 Toyota after Erik Jones finished seventh in Sunday’s Hollywood Casino 400 at the 1.5-mile track. Tuesday, officials fined No. 20 crew chief Chris Gayle $10,000 for the safety violation.

President Donald Trump awards Medal of Freedom to Roger Penske

President Donald Trump awarded car owner Roger Penske the Medal of Freedom, the nation’s highest civilian honor, Thursday in a ceremony at the White House.

“A legend in so many ways,” President Trump said of Penske.

The Medal of Freedom was established by President John F. Kennedy in 1963 and is awarded to individuals who have made exceptional contributions to the security or national interests of America, to world peace or to cultural or other significant public or private endeavors.

“Receiving the Presidential Medal of Freedom is really something special,” Penske said during the White House ceremony, “and to me it means more than any business success or motorsports trophy.”

Not NASCAR, but saw that Roger Penske bought IndyCar series and the Indianapolis Motor Speedway from the George family. That is a great move for the Captain, and will help the IndyCar series.

Suarez confirms he will not return to Stewart-Haas Racing in 2020

Daniel Suarez confirmed on Thursday night via a video to his fans on Twitter that he will not return to Stewart-Haas Racing for the 2020 NASCAR Cup Series season.

“I’m here to confirm the bad news that some of you guys already know and some of you guys are trying to figure out that I won’t be back next year in the 41 car,” Suarez said in the video, which you can see below.

Daniel Hemric to pilot No. 8 JR Motorsports Chevrolet part time in 2020

Daniel Hemric will return to the NASCAR Xfinity Series in 2020, driving in a part-time role for Dale Earnhardt Jr. — who also will race once next year in his team’s No. 8 Chevrolet.

JR Motorsports announced its 2020 driver lineup for the No. 8 car on Wednesday, with Hemric as the headliner for 21 (of 33) races. Jeb Burton will add 11 races in the entry, and Junior will have one race, yet to be announced.

Jimmie Johnson, seven-time NASCAR champion, to retire after 2020 season

Jimmie Johnson, one of the most decorated champions in stock-car racing, announced the endpoint of his full-time driving career Wednesday, indicating 2020 will mark his final season in the NASCAR Cup Series.

Johnson has spent his entire career with the Hendrick Motorsports No. 48 Chevrolet operation, which he has called home since his premier series debut in 2001. He announced the news with a heartfelt video on Twitter and is expected to address the media Thursday afternoon....!
