just got a mag 256
is there a step by step set up procedure that can be followed for this box?

going through the set up process
i get to where i go to RESTART PORTAL
I am not getting asked for a log in input
it just says confirm or cancel when I click on RESTART PORTAL and I hit confirm and it says loading but still not asked for log in and password

ok figured it out , did not type in http// before url name
got it to load, asked me for the password/donation numbers and all the channels loaded up but regardless of which channels I choose just get a blank screen, no audi or video
also noticed that iks is down now as well so dont know if the 2 are related (server issues)

Still have no channels coming up, lots of channels in the guide but no matter which one I pick always get a black screen
Any suggestions?

you would still get the EPG showing the channels, but would be blank screen.
Both UserID and Password are the same 12 or 13 digit number for both.
Or if anything else is slightly incorrect, it will seem like it is connected but is not connected to the server which gives the channels, just to the server that gives the EPG only.

But Suspecting with your IKS down too, then it may be something to do with your ISP connection.
But also, if getting the EPG then that does mean that the Mag is connecting to that server which deals with the EPG... so that is confusing.

ok so what would you suggest
have followed the set up procedure and everything worked but still no picture, just the epg
should reset box and start again?
and if so how do you factory reset this box?

in system settings there is a Reboot Device function.
There is also a pin hole at the rear of receiver (beside the power connection), that you would insert a toothpick or something and reboot that way too... But that will erase everything and take it back to factory settings.

it is asking for the your donation code
That 12 or 13 digit number is used for both that log in and password. Same number for both.

Do you have a donation code from one of the 3 services ?

yes have input the info and it has returned me to the main screen
also does it matter if the mac address letters are upper or lower case?
does the url portal need to have a name put in as well?

You can enter as either Lower case or Upper Case, both are accepted and work fine.
If you enter lower case letters at the website, they will be saved and then seen as Upper case.
Most times when talking about MAC addresses, we use lower case to ensure we do not confuse the number 0 and the upper case letter O (The capital O is fatter then the zero, but to use the lower case as o, is less confusing).

URL Server Portal needs the full URL ... including the http and name , yes.

If you read thru the Mag 254 tutural it should be similar to the 256
Check the Sticky threads in the Mag4 254 forum area here, for the turturals.

Please update us here how you like 256, I ordered one but it seems to be defective going through the exchange process now. I haven't heard to many complaints about it just would like to know how everyone else likes it.
