If you use the Fire TV you learn quickly that it would be nice to have more remote functions. Although you can use a Bluetooth keyboards , remotes are much handier in most cases. Most remotes are infrared and it is not supported by the Fire TV. However there is a nice little programmable infrared receiver that works with the Fire TV called Flirc and sells for about 15 buck.
I have attached docs, Flirc configuration, and Kodi keyboard maps for help you get setup if you wish to do this.
One Note: It looks like the Fire TV Home button has changed in the Fire TV 2 so this is not working at the moment and your original remote will have to be used to get to the home screen. Once I know the solution for this I will post an update.
