New to iptv

So I am a fta user and never used IPTV before I'm thinking about getting a mag 254 now is not a good box to get for a beginner ? And I was just going to use rocket. Now my main concern is what type of channels will I get? Will it be North American Canadian or overseas ? I really have no clue how to set it up either. Any information or suggestions would be very helpful.
