Ironically I just got asked about an iptv with local vod.
We have a hotel in the middle of know we're. It currently has 12 stb with hdmi. There currently using rf modulators but looking for a improvement.
The hotel is under some minor renovations to update to the 21st century. New hd tv sets, wifi, and a few other things including cat6 lines to each tv location. It is a fairly well used hotel as the oil industry heavily uses it. With the slow down this allows them to renovate.
I am looking for hardware to get the iptv going, local vod is community only stuff so all is legal.
Thoughts?
By hardware I mean to take the hdmi signal from the stb to the network

you can use a network share then each android box can access the network shared folder/drive/ect

What about the live TV part? The network share is no problem.

you would have to buy a donation for each box @ 80.00 a year

They are using genuine satellite receivers with actual payed accounts.
Right now everything is older tv's that use the rf cable to allow visitors to watch tv. They only have 12 channels to choose from at the moment.
the output of these receivers goes to a module to convert the signal to rf and assign a channel. Like cnn is channel 12, abc is channel 11 and so on. channels are selected by hotel management. During the Olympics they changed one of the receivers to a Olympic channel so people could watch.
Right now they are in the midst of a renovation. The plan is to take the rf module out and install something so they can get a better picture quality at the tv's. I thought iptv.
Satellite receiver -->hdmi capture device that converts to a iptv format--->network switch----> some sort of iptv box--->tv using hdmi.
the VOD is local community created content. Like what is going on in the community this month, stuff the local school kids have created and any local sports games the community has created. There will be no movies and tv shows on VOD.
I was thinking sort of what nfps is doing but instead of using the internet use the local hotel network.
Are you thinking about streaming individual channels from a subscribed set of boxes to the rest of the hotel?

yes 12 subscribed set of boxes to allow the hotel tv's to have 12 channels. they have over 20 tv's total.

It looks like e wants to do card sharing
So basically, you need to capture the A/V from the individual receivers, create that as a source to your streaming server, and then maybe use a middleware product like Stalker to redistribute the channels out to the hotel. Just an updated version of closed circuit TV to your hotel rooms.

sounds right.
think I found something
http://www.ebay.ca/itm/OPR-NH1600-16-Channels-H-264-HDMI-Encoder-for-IPTV-for-wowza-FMS-Media-Server-/151614823930?hash=item234cf29dfa
We have a programmer in the company who will be tasked to create/modify some box/software to suit the needs of the hotel. Or find a company who already has a box that works at the tv end.
BTW I don't work for the hotel, just the company contracted to do the work and solve things like this.
Good luck with that... just thinking its maybe a little out of our league here. That piece of equipment will handle the capture, and it looks like it will serve the streams. Your TVs will still need some sort of client, maybe the right smart tv app, or an IPTV box, or an android box.

there will be some sort of iptv box at the tv end, this is easy. It is the satellite receiver encoder that we need to figure out.

I think that I saw at the Infrmur and the AVOV home sites that they are offering middleware for such a need. Check them out!
