Where are the how to and noobie threads?

I was around when iptv was announced but just ignored it as i still have two wonderfully working sv8k however I will bite and probably buy a fuse now when it comes out. So i have two questions

Where should i learn the basics
And can I start by downloading some of these apps on pc? Are people emulating these boxes and running iptv on pc?
