The potential fight would be the most eagerly-awaited in years, with a date of May 2 already pencilled in at Las Vegas' MGM Grand

Manny Pacquiao has agreed terms to fight Floyd Mayweather Junior in May and is now anxiously waiting for his rival to put pen to paper.

Pacquiao's promoters Top Rank say everything is signed off at their end to make happen the most-eagerly awaited clash in years.

However Mayweather has yet to agree to the contest, which would be on May 2 at Las Vegas' MGM Grand, and many commentators feel the fight will still not take place.

Carl Moretti, vice president of Top Rank, said: "Top Rank and Manny have agreed to the terms on our side. I don't know about the other side.

Pacquiao says he is willing to face his great rival after years of the pair avoiding each other and it is believed he has accepted a 40 per cent cut of what will be the richest fight in history.

The Filipino has also agreed to Mayweather's demands for drugs testing, which has been an obstacle in the past.

"I think that Manny agreed to USADA testing shows you his eagerness to make this fight," Moretti said.

Despite Pacquiao's willingness to fight, the final call lies with Mayweather and he will decide if the fight happens or not.

Amir Khan, who does not believe the fight will happen, was in a similar position in the autumn of 2013 when he signed to fight Mayweather, only for the world's pound-for-pound king to opt to fight Marcos Maidana.

Earlier this month, Mayweather flaunted his wealth with a picture of his £5million car fleet.

And Pacquiao responded by urged him to forget the bling and sign up for a much-anticipated clash between the long-time rivals.

He said: “Floyd brags about his lifestyle and everything. I don’t care. I’m just waiting here for him to sign the contract.”

Floyd “Money” Mayweather is undefeated in his 47 professional fights, he has won 26 of them by knockout.

According to Forbes, he was the highest-paid sportsman of 2014 earning £66million in prize money.

Away from the ring his life has not always been so great.

He spent 90 days in jail in 2011 after being found guilty of battery against an ex-girlfriend – the latest in a series of criminal violence cases going back to 2002.

He has previously told of growing up in poverty in New Jersey, his family of seven sharing one bedroom.

He once said: “When people see what I have now, they have no idea of where I came from and how I didn’t have anything growing up.”
