Unboxing the X5 SS is a very nice experience. It always is with these BuzzTV devices.
They are packed very well. Always with the shock guard material inside the box, for shipping. The device itself is set right into this shock material. Very nice.
I saw a ytube video the other day, it was about a new Ferrari purchase (kinda like an unboxing).
The car came with a special gift box about the same size as these Buzz gift boxes. Inside was an extra key fob and a special Ferrari emblem thingy. The point is thou, the way the box opened up was classically well designed and it reminded me so much how these Buzz gift boxes open the same way. Just something I noticed :)
Two RCUs (remote control units) come with the SuperSport.
The GT20 and the BT400
The GT20 is a Bluetooth / IR combo remote and is also one of them optional voice activated remotes.
The BT400 is a Bluetooth / IR combo remote.
With the GT20 there is a 'Voice' button on the RCU.
Press that at any time and you will see a info bar appear at the bottom on the tv screen. Then while still holding the Voice button say a word or words and then that word you said will appear there on screen. Then you will hear a voice probably saying something like 'Here are your search results' , or the voice may not say anything, but Ytube / Google search results of that word will be seen there on screen. Click and play at this point.
The Voice command also works for Volume control. When on any screen, Press and hold the Voice button and say Volume Up... the voice will say 'Got it' and the volume will go up by one notch.
I tried this for server setup but it didn't work.
I had the setup page open on the device... the server I need to type in starts with the letter 'P' ... so I said P and the voice came on and repeated the dictionary meaning of P with the text seen on screen.
In this case the voice thought P was pee and described urinating... lol
The voice will say other things too. I said "jump" and it came back with some YTube selections seen on-screen but no voice yet (the song Jump by VanHalen was one). Then the voice started to list off geographic places named Jump as well as showing ytube selections of other things.
I guess it depends on what screen you start from when you press the Voice button on what the voice may say or do.
If you are watching a Ytube video or something else online , like thru an open web browser, you can press the Home button to take you back to Buzz' Home Screen. OR you can press the Voice button and say 'Exit' and that will also take you out of ytube and back to Buzz Home Screen.
When first setting up and using the Voice button the device will ask you to sign into your Google account or you can also choose not to sign in and your Voice commands will still work either way.
Another voice function worth mentioning but nothing to do with the remote Voice, is the Talk Back function.
If turned On, the device will repeat what menu text is shown on screen.
Settings > Device Preferences > Accessibility > Talk Back On or Off
There is also a Text to Speech option in the Device Preferences too, but I hadn't set that one.
There are a whole whack of other settings to go thru too, and some quite unique for an iptv box up to this date in time, but they will be talked about at another time.
*Something else important to add here thou ...
The Volume Control with the HDMI-CEC functionalities may need to be set to Force Max Volume
BuzzTV Utilities > Volume Control
or if some VOD movies don't have volume control, you may need to use the TV's volume control.
If you want or need to look at the HDMI-CEC settings, look in the Device Preferences.
I think I saw this partially explained during the initial device setup.
Just another FYI
The power cord is not the same as the original X5. The volts and amps and Hz inputs and outputs are the same but the connection type to the device are different between the two power cords.

And the package comes with two sets of batteries for the two RCUs and a nice X5 SuperSport mouse pad is included.
okay folks, there it is, unboxed :)
It's a sharp looking device too.
