have tried to install apk app through downloader the file downloads thens comes up with

there was a problem parsing the package

not sure its the software on the box version 7.1.2 cannot be updated

You're confused.
7.1.2 is the Android version not the software version.
Press Menu button and software version is at the bottom left.
