HDR video streams don't look great

I have an Android box (Buzz TV). For the video plugins I use (e.g. The Crew) there are streams NOT marked "HDR", and when I play those streams the colors look great! It's nice and bright and the colors really "pop". However for the streams that are actually marked "HDR", when I play those streams the video colors look OK, the video is darker than non-HDR streams (it's possible the colors are a bit flat but it's hard to tell because the the video is darker). I think either my Buzz TV box or the actual TV settings isn't configured correctly for HDR streams. Can anybody help me with this? Note I tried toggling the "Always HDR / Adaptive HDR" setting on my Buzz box and it doesn't seem to make a difference.
