I was prewarned (my brothers box was bricked) and unplugged hardwire. Turned off auto update. Turned off box.
Plugged hardwire back in. Turned box on. Started to update, cancelled, started to update again, cancelled, turned box off before it had a chance to update again.
Unplugged hardwire, turned box on, checked and auto update is still turned off. This box was never connected by wifi always hardwire.
Shutting off auto update won't necessarily stop the update in my experiance.

Is there any resolution to the box locking up after the update?

Seems like the Buzz update for model 3000 worked fine.....I suspect by accident maybe Buzztv sent the 3000 update to the 3900 also...which would be different and could cause a problem with the 3900...sounds like it did
