The MXQ 4K 4k Ultra that I have in front of me, shows Android v7.1.2 in the System menus.
Kodi v18.0
ApkInstaller is installed and does work with 'side-loading' apk
Last build update was from the 12th day of the 4th month of 2018
This receiver is a Chinese knock-off... I doubt it will have a very long working life, but seems like a decent enough unit, for a knock-off.
IPTVXtra addon is prolly the best way to go for this one, and also can use Playlists because it does have an apk installer and can install a Player, like Perfect Player or progTV

To install IPTVXtra on Kodi, install it from the Repository.
Here is a link to the repository zip file
http://www.mediafire.com/file/jg045rogrocuxt4/repository.Kens13-1.0.0.zip/file
Download the zip file to your device.
Open Kodi
(Recommend you change the skin to Confluence 1st (Settings/ Interface/ Skin ))
- Click on the line with the name of the skin.
- in window click Get More.
- scroll down to confluence and select.
Go to System Settings/ Add-ons/ Install from zip - Browse to the zip file and click to install the Repository.
then
Go to System Settings/ Add-ons/ Install from Repository/ Kens Repository/ Video Addons - IPTVXtra

you watch TV from the Main (Home Screen) by clicking the TV Icon then Guide from the sub-menu, not from the Channel list in IPTVXtra.
You only access VOD from IPTVXtra by clicking VOD.
*Note After you get the channel list in iptvxtra, go back to the IPTVXtra main menu and click Auto-Setting: PVR Simple client.
That will make the playlist for the pvr, download the guide and load the settings and enable the PVR, then you get the TV Icon on the Kodi Home Screen.
