NASCAR and track officials have moved up the start time for Saturday’s Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series race at Bristol Motor Speedway to 6:30 p.m. ET (NBCSN/NBC Sports App, PRN, SiriusXM NASCAR Radio) because of the potential for inclement weather.

Bad news for me again... "unplanned for" family event will prevent me from marshaling the race. I'll get the results posted as soon as I can, but it might be pretty late. I'll make the announcement now... the next two races after Bristol will be die-cast races, Darlington and Indy are two of the big races of the NASCAR calendar. Bristol is a big deal as well.

you must be forgetting about the stage points
Winning races is still the goal, but the stages do make for a more exciting race... you get three races instead of just one long one. Besides points for the top ten, the winner of a stage gets a playoff point, which can help in moving on in the playoffs. For road courses, it seems that some teams would rather have better track position for the overall race, so they'll pit early and give up the points, but for the most part, the teams want to win stages as well as the overall race.

3 weeks ago at Bowling at the Glen...
I don't Understand Nascar's Thinking on Their Scoring...! Elliott Won the Race and Truex came in Second...!
Elliott Led More Laps than Truex and Truex gets 51 points while Elliott, who Won, got 50..?!?
3 weeks ago at Bowling at the Glen...
And your point is?
Not attacking you, its just the way NASCAR is scoring, for this and last season. They stopped the led laps points with the "new" system.

Elliott did not Win a Stage[/B][/U] or the Race and gets 50 points while Kurt Won the Race and only gets 46 Points...!
Elliott received more stage points then Busch.
During any Stage completion, placing 1st to 10th gets you extra points.
For example...
Second place in a stage gets you 9 extra points.
Eleven place in a Stage gets you 0 extra points.
How NASCAR driver points are awarded per race
By
Staff Report NASCAR.com February 8, 2017 at 3:02 pm
Under the charter system that was established in 2016, NASCAR’s premier series events can have up to 40 cars in the field. Each finishing spot in the field earns a driver points, from a maximum of 40 points to the driver who finishes first, down to one point for the driver who finishes 40th. These points accrue over a season and determine the driver standings, as well as the owner standings.
The addition of three stages to every points-paying race adds a new element. Drivers can earn race points through their performances in Stage 1 and Stage 2. Drivers who are running first through 10th at the conclusion of Stage 1 and/or Stage 2 will receive points, starting with 10 points for first place, nine points for second place, down to one point for 10th place. Points earned in those two stages are then added to what drivers earn after the Final Stage, which sets the full race results.
Points are accumulated over each of the 36 races. There is a reset for the 16 drivers in the playoffs after the regular-season finale at Indianapolis, the series’ 26th race of the season. There are additional points resets in the postseason after the completion of each three-race postseason round.
Additionally, a driver can earn bonus playoff points for the following:
— Five playoff points to the race-winning driver
— One playoff bonus point to the driver who wins Stage 1 and/or Stage 2 in every event
Those points are added on to a driver’s total once the postseason starts. The accumulated playoff points will carry over at the start of the Round of 16, Round of 12 and Round of 8.
Other key items to know:
• The driver who starts the race receives the points; a relief driver does not earn points.
• Bonus points are not awarded in the final race of the season to the Championship 4 drivers.
Below is a look at how a driver earns points based on finishing position at the end of the Final Stage.
