i just went to the site to download this file and i started getting bombed by other sites trying to load ads and crap to my system. is there another way to download this file?

Just Google xbmc sport devil and the very first one you see ,the tutorial by Seo-Michael have the zip file on it.

If it doesn't work for you use the may 5 file, Sportsdevil doesn' update automatically since is community addon which is means is just fixed by different members since the author stopped working on it.

I downloaded this latest version..uninstalled my older version.installed the new version but the version in kodi still says 1.8.8.0

I would download this file, save zip file on a flash drive (do not unzip), remove flash drive from computer, place flash drive on the back of your device. Go to Kodi >systems>settings>Addons>install fro zip file>find your flash drive> click on the sports devil file

he's not misleading anyone, it doesn't matter if you update from a local zip or a repo.. dependancies are loaded just the same.. a repo is just a website that hosts the same zip file, it has the same list of dependancies listed in the addon.xml and kodi loads it just the same... as long as the repo he mentioned is being maintaned, then it will autoupdate just fine..

unfortunately the Sportsdevil creators left the addon so it's now being maintained by Hubba3b and Sattko which are just members of the Kodi community (there are other versions of sportsdevil being maintained by other programmers) but any programmer can edit the addon since it;s an open source. What the owners of some repos are doing in adding Sportsdevil and loading these updates (and in some cases their own versions) to entice people to load their repo. For myself i rather use the people that i know compare to those than i don't, and it's not that they are (all) bad it's just my personal preference.
