i got the latest kodi and potato tv running on my rasp 1 , my question is is there a way to get a tv guide working and schedule recordings?

Recording with Potato TV...No. There are two working EPGs (Acid's and Ken's). Peruse the EPG section below and use one of those addresses in IPTV Simple client's configuration. It will override the one Potato TV inserted and that is no longer working.
