Anyone using tvheadend with NFPS?

I'm sure there are people doing this, but I haven't found any threads on how to set this up. I'm trying to set it up so that I can use the tvhProxy to watch on Plex with EPG and all that (but right now I just want to get it setup on the server properly). I just had a few questions.

What is the maximum # of input streams? If it's only one, can I use multiple subscriptions (I have three currently) to allow me to watch a channel while the another is recording, or so that I can watch different shows in different rooms? I originally set it up for 5 input streams, which sped up the mux/service discovery, but I got a ton of errors.

I had it scan through the m3u (using IPTV Automatic Network or something like that), and it set up all of the muxes and services, then I went into the channel setup and mapped all of the services. It started out at 1 and went all the way up to whatever number. How do I set up the EPG on tvheadend for this? Can I use Ken's EPG xml file, or should I use Schedules Direct or something like that? And if I do that, do the channel numbers have to be specific, or does it go off the channel title?

IDK why you would want to record any IPTV since virtually everything is available online within a couple hours of airing without commercials. Recording is downloading and not streaming so you are potentially running afoul of the law... Just a thougt.

As far as EPG, it depends on which guide you use and how your m3u is set up. When I do my guide, I output name first and have the channel names match the names in the m3u. I don't use channel numbers so everything is numbered sequentially. It's all a matter of preference of the user.

OK, cool. Yeah, I could see recording local news and thought about that myself a while back but found that those are already available online. I don't even use my tuner with the media setup anymore but just switch the input to the TV and it's pvr for Sunday news shows and nightly local news. Everything else I do within the media center and have been doing it that way for several years.

The only reason I keep the channel names the same as NFPS is because they were adding and subtracting channels frequently, but as you saw, you can tweak this anyway that is comfortable for you. Where I live the only locals that are easily picked up are primarily in French so the NY and MIA locals are good for me as they are where I'm from originally and it's cool to keep up.

As NFPS is my main provider, I use their naming format as my default and I have my m3u pick up EPG data using "tvg-name" so it really doesn't matter what the actual channels themselves are called; since the tvg-name matches, the guide gets populated. This makes it easier on me. All that matters is what I put in the ???.ren file to change the names. Works out great. At some point I will likely change the channel names to something more uniform and that looks better. I have changed some of the names and logos for channels that do only Christmas but left the guide name the same and there's no problem with the guide data. Come to think of it, guess there's no time like the present to go ahead and make those changes now.

Having the option of m3u is great so we don't have to see all the channels in the provider line ups.
