The second golf major of 2017 is officially underway @ Erin Hills, Wisconsin.
The 117th U.S. Open
Erin Hills becomes the 51st course to host the U.S. Open but just the sixth public access course to receive the honor.
Will Dustin Johnson repeat as defending US Open Champion or will Jordan Spieth find his groove or a golfer like Rickie Fowler breaks through with the first major of his career ?
CBS Sports
Chip Patterson
-Rickie Fowler holds the first place spot after opening round Thursday.
-Phil Michelson has dropped out so he can attend his daughter's graduation. first time in a long while either he or Tiger Woods are not in an Open.
-The Blimp also dropped out, literally
(The Penfed Credit Union Blimp dropped out of the sky near the course and crashed, seriously injuring the pilot, but he is expected to be okay).
This will be an interesting Open, due to the fact that this is a public course and the best ball strikers of the world may never have played this course, at least not in an Open with the competition level so high.
This course looks like a course from Scotland.
There are no tress but lots of tall grass, just like a links course.
The wind can get rough too.
This will be the longest course played in Open tournament history, with 5 or 6 par 5's.... at over 600 yards each.
Watch hole #9
That hole may be a factor in this Open tourney :)
