i had updated my windows 7 but forgot about the nvidia shield tv, sure enough after reading your post i found mine also was updated. i was afraid to attempt to update my dual boot Ubuntu because installing the latest kodi was such a pain in the arse with all the command line entries to add repositories and apt update and install commands it was a challenge and then it didn't include pvr so i had to add the ppa for that and download it as well, finally i got it working just right and then this bug came out and kodi rolled out 17.2 and then 17.3.
to my surprise i checked Ubuntu for updates and there was kodi all i had to do was click install from Ubuntu (two update installs 1st for 17.2 and the second for 17.3 worked like a charm and easy to do.
