Another New Guy Begging For Help!

Good morning forums! At least those in Canada or EST! First time poster, long time lurker. Finally decided to subscribe and make some posts! But the first one is me begging for help! I've tried a bunch of stuff and nothing seems to be working! Followed all the guides i can step by step and nothing! For ease of reading and finding information, I'll put a lot of this stuff into bullet points. Starting with my equipment setup.

Equipment and Versions:
Raspberry Pi 3 running RetroPie/EmulationStation Ver. 4.2

Program:
Kodi Ver. 17.0

PVR Client:
Stalker Client Ver. 2.3.6

Server and Donation Info:
NFPS
Order Number: xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Donation Number: xxxxxxxxxxxx
MAC Address: 00:1A:78:xx:xx:xx (I have tried switching from "78" to "79" and back with no luck. MAC Address is currently set to "78")

Issues:
"Stalker Client Authentication Failed, Retrying"
"PVR Manager starting up, 0%"

I had my IPTV running (albeit poorly) when using credentials issued to me from another provider till I stumbled upon the ones recommended here. I figured there was more of a support network I could rely on! At this point I'm not really even concerned about having the guide work (it would be nice though!) but just getting my service up and running is the main one for me.

Everything I'm running is a fresh install, but am currently having issues resetting my IPTV via the donation checker.

Any and all help is greatly appreciated! Cheers!

what are you using for server address?, NFPS changed last week, did you try clearing data in the guide?

You need to use the 78 MAC. You need to use the new URL. You need to do an IPTV Reset before enabling the PVR with the new URL.

I will make sure to run through all of those. Starting with the IPTV Reset, but currently the website is not responding for me. Loads for a bit then error message "Sorry we can't process this request right now" pops up. I'll give it a bit and see if it works then try everything on a fresh install.

So I was able to do an IPTV Reset from the donation checker. Then went through for the first time setting everything up step by step with the new portal address. Still getting an "Authorization Failed. Retrying" message, and the "PVR manager is starting up, 0%" popup. So really nothing at all has changed. Am I missing something? Maybe my IP address?

Quick update! I added the [http://] prefix to the server address and did a reset. Then BAM! Everything loaded up! Now the next challenge is to figure out how to load the guide without losing my channels!

A couple of things.

To confirm you are indeed connecting correctly, PVR Stalker is a tough program to set up right out of the gate. I'd try something a little easier, like Playlist loader (for M3U lists) Couch Potato's excellent plug in or xTreme IPTV codes. I believe none of these require a MAC address to be set. I will not use K17 until all the bugs are worked out, so I can't really comment about if the PVR plug ins actually work.

As well, initially, do not go through a VPN. The service locks to your static IP address. So resetting on one IP and then trying the service on another might not get the results you intend. When I travel, I do an IPTV reset once I am at the destination. Then fire up Kodi.

If you are using Rogers in CAN, it does work really well. I know this whole process is frustrating, but when you get there it does work quite well. I use Playlist Loader and an external EPG for my set up. Plus I use a similar set up on my iPhone.

Thanks for the info! Because I'm running this off a Raspberry Pi, I'm not able to/familiar enough with coding to go in and do back end tweaks, so thats why I'm trying to go through a lot of the front end settings and such. And being in a profession that requires me to travel a lot, learning now (from your comment) that I have to do an IPTV Reset is good knowledge! But I assumed that going the MAC address route was a more "solid" route to not have service interruptions. But if I go the playlist route, will that supply all the channels and a guide? Or will it only supply the channels associated from that playlist? And if so, is there a list somewhere that says which list is which?

Take a look at Crazed 2.0's sticky about How To Get A Playlist. It is pretty comprehensive and should help you out.

The playlist is an actual clone of all NFPS channels and VOD. You can mess about with it in vlc and chop up into smaller lists if you want to. You won't have any epg UNLESS you use the playlist in pvr Simple Client and point to en epg source in settings.

TBH Stalker pvr was rather giving me fits as it constantly sends authentication to the server. So if you also have Potato or Xtream enabled, then if you tried to use one of those addons, you would get an error.

To solve all the hamster in a wheel feeling, I unlinked my MAC and got the playlist. Then I opened it up in vlc. From there I got rid of everything I didn't want to see. You can highlight a single channel or group of them (shift plus down or up arrow) then right click and remove selected entry. Further, you can move things around, which is what I did because I always tweaked the pvr anyway as I like things alphabetical by country and I have US and UK channels that I like. I grouped alphabetically by UK, News (UK, then US alpha) and US. This is how I always do it and trust me, I've done it zillions of times since if there were ever any changes at the server it always messed up my 'special arrangement'. Once you have everything the way you want it, just do a 'File, Save As' and give it a new name. You can then open the original and still have everything as it is on the server and can tweak it again and save different versions, such as movies.m3u with just the VOD, or whatever you feel like. Personally, they way I group things is how I like it and having the VOD in the pvr is an added benefit. Of course, you won't have epg for VOD. For that there are better options...or other options. I'm just happy to have the channels working again.

Now that we can have an M3U, that shouldn't ever happen again! This is because you are no longer bound to the entire lineup from NFPS. All you have is selected channels in your M3U!!! You also have the VOD right from the pvr. This is using SIMPLE CLIENT.

I do my own epg, so I'm not bound by anyone's files being up to date or missing any data. It's all on me. But you can use one of the shared epgs by just adding the url in the Simple Client settings (i.e. yahyabell).

I would heartily recommend this setup. Finally, it seems to be (dare I say it?) a perfect setup.

Another quick update for today! Making good progress! I switched over to a playlist/m3u link, and the channels are still working! I also downloaded it onto my computer and I think I understand how to make a new list, and possibly how to add it back onto my Raspberry Pi. Now my question is just about the guide and how to get that working. With NFPS going to another server, will that effect how the EPG link works? (I think thats what I'm supposed to use, right??)

Thanks again for such a clear writeup! I think I might be having the wrong idea about the guide... I was hoping I would be able to set it up so I could see programming in advance, just like a normal cable setup. Or is it just the channel list that is the "guide"?

It's just like a set top box kind of setup. If you use Simple Client and add a source for epg in the settings, you will have program data for what's currently on whilst in channel view. If you select the guide view, you will have a typical epg listing for however many hours you have set to show in Kodi settings. I do epgs for a week at a time but have Kodi only display 48 hours.

This setup loads WAY faster than Stalker Client because you load only selected channels. Therefore the epg loads fast as well because it only loads for the reduced number of channels and not everything on the NFPS server. If you take a look at the Kodi log, you can see exactly what happens, step by step, when Kodi starts up.

I always like to know how things work and I have looked at almost every addon with notepad++. I open individual files (i.e. addon.py, server.py, settings.xml, etc) and figure out how things work. Where things are listed as 'hidden' I delete the hidden bits and it shows in the addon. This helps me figure out everything. I don't let things auto update. I first find out what the update is and then decide. Again, this is because I do tweak addons to suit my own taste.

The tricky thing that I'm trying to figure out how to track is the logs and watching how this all works. Because I'm running it on a standalone 'computer' and still don't know how to view logs on the Raspberry Pi, and am learning that side as well... Not sure how to transfer lists into Kodi, but I think I have an idea of cutting and pasting into the logs in the directories on the SD card?...

I'm no linux guru so maybe someone else can chime in here and help you out some (if Google doesn't provide an answer). I only know how to view the log in windows and android. Strike that, just install the Log Viewer from the Kodi Repo and you can view the log that way. Here's an obnoxious vid that shows it in action:

As far as the urls for EPG goes~are you asking about for already made EPGs? If so, you have a few options listed under the subforum for Kodi Discussion/EPG. You could use Viper's guide or Pach's. If you are talking about making your own then there is a thread for that where I did a tutorial on How To Use MC2XML To ...

The logs can be quite verbose, so happy hunting. If there is not enough info in the log to suit you, it can be tweaked to be more verbose by adding a line in the advancedsettings.xml (if you created that file in the first place) See the wiki for that. If you want to go the easiest route there is also an addon called Easy Advanced Settings in the Tvaddons repo.

OK, yes. I looked at that when it first came out. But then I decided to just do my own and not have to rely on anyone else. You can get some guide info at tvguide.co.uk if I'm not mistaken. And zap2it.com but I got a yearly sub to schedulesdirect for $25. It's what is used here by everyone who is providing an epg. Much less moving parts.

Just for grins, why not check out TV Portal and their guide and tools, too. Knowledge is power. :)

Everything you need is right here in this very thread. If you installed 17 over your previous installation...just clear the cache if in android or Clear Data from Kodi PVR Settings.

Other than that, take the time to read this thread or look at this same info I posted in another thread about 30 minutes ago. It's all there if you just read it. I;ve posted everything twice already. If this thread is confusing to you, search the forum because everything is literally spelled out for you.

I have built my own guide a couple times. I do have an SD account, use if for my NextPVR on OTA channels.

I've used Webgrab+ and have it configured for 300 channels, served up on my Appache instance. This method is just hit/miss with content, plus the ever changing cookie requirements. I tried with SD files, but the UK channels could not be added to my SD account. I think only the JSON method might allow this.

I found the TV Guide Fullscreen's ability very good, plus I can combine a secondary XML source. I can turn off/on various channels and it's nice eye candy.

I like a challenge, so maybe I'll fire up mc2xml again and give it a go! I did use it a few yrs ago, but I don't think it had the SD interface.
