Hi
1. What are the main differences between a .m3u service and a mac address service? Why is everyone moving to the mac address one?
2. Is there any good app for Apple TV that supports iptv? I know riptv but it only works with .m3u... i was thinking to buy it and use the umbrellasharing service.
What do you think?

.m3u is list and mac address is umm an address of your device.
"A media access control address (MAC address) of a computer is a unique identifier assigned to network interfaces for communications at the data link layer of a network segment. MAC addresses are used as a network address for most IEEE 802 network technologies, including Ethernet and Wi-Fi."
"M3U is a computer file format for a multimedia playlist. ... Although originally designed for audio files, such as MP3, it is commonly used to point media players to audio and video sources, including online sources."

i know the difference between the two technologies! but thanks anyway! :D
what i was trying to say is: a few months ago, i subscribed to an iptv service and they send me an m3u link and voilĂ*! i didn't need any mac address whatsoever
today, newer iptv services works by mac address. why?
why this change and is there any advantages to us, consumers? or is more of a more reliable way for seeders to control who leech?

it is not a change per say.
Them m3u playlists are something that a website gathers up from other websites and then offers the complete playlist as a service. There are seldom seen any premium channels (because them playlists thru m3u are what can be had freely and abundantly thru the web. Them channels will never be working for any amount of time without an update to the playlists.
A private server that hosts its own channels or gathers them, will then offer a server connection to their content. That server connection needs authentication that it is you that they are giving their services to. ANd your particular receiver or application is tied to that connection thru the MAC addy. If there was no authentication, then you could use the service on more then one device at same time, or someone on the web may get lucky and hack your user name and password and use it toi connect to service. That MAC addy stops that.
