Director: Michael Mann
Screenwriter: Morgan Davis Foehl
-Chris Hemsworth as Nick Hathaway (Rush / the Thor films)
-Wei Tang as Chen Lien
-Viola Davis as Carol Barrett
-Holt McCallany as Mark Jessup
Our lead character Nick Hathaway, is a convicted Hacker, convicted of hacking into big co0perations and banks.
The FBI needs him and offers him a chance at his freedom. He just has to track down this particularly nasty Hacker fella who is running amuk.
The story line is okay but some of the plot is just too unbelievable. Nick the convicted felon seems to be in charge. That's not quite how the real world would deal with a felon with a 25 years sentence hanging over his head. And we also have a felon (Nick) traveling all over the world, but I guess he can do that, after all he did cut his own ankle braclet off and thru the braclet onto a ocean going barge
But anyway, lets get past that.
Then we have Nick's love interest.. wait a sec, what love interest? Ohhh the girl, Nick's best friend's sister. But they don't even know each other, but they sure fell in love fast and hard.
I guess we needed some romance in the movie
I normally like Michael Mann's movies (Heat, Ali, Last of the Mohicans, The Insider, Starsky and Hutch (TV series), Mimi Vice (TV series and movie).
That movie Heat with Pacino and what's his name, was terrific. As a matter of fact I had closed my eyes at one point in this movie black hat, and a gun battle scene started. In my sleepy stupor I thought I was listening to the gun battle from the scene in Heat !!
Which brings up another point. There seems to be some needless violence portrayed in this movie and really didn't need to be there. Some of it just doesn't make sense as to why it's included.
Chris Hemsworth as Nick Hathaway, does a decent job in his role, but I think they cast that role incorrectly. I guess maybe I picture him behind the wheel of a Formula 1 car or wielding Thor's Hammer :)
I especially liked Hemsworth in his role in the movie Rush. He portrayed a formula 1 driver (James Hunt).
Mann does pay attention to detail and research, as he always does in his movies. This is the first movie I seen that is realistic in the scenes involving computer programs and etc.
But in my opinion, Black Hat the movie falls short.
An estimated 70 million dollars to produce.
An estimated 4 or 5 million profit made over the holiday weekend back in January.
With all fairness thou, it was up against Clint Eastwood's American Sniper, which made a huge 90 million dollar Box office take
1 thumb up outta 5
