i have verizon dsl. do i need the usb wifi antenna,if i buy the mag 254 to connect?

Yes it doesn't have built in wifi and you better off doing wired streaming that is connect via Ethernet cable.

No need if you connect by the cat5 cable but some have better results with the wifi, I recommend you buy the wifi at same time so should be right one.
Am using a Jynxbox antenna in mine and it works well, your choice probably less than $20.

thanks for your fast replys. i am new to the mag 254. if i buy the antenna then there is no need to connect cable from my router to mag 254 is that correct?

The cable from router is recommended however have mine on wifi running well also set one at daughters place on wifi and is good there also, is difficult to route wire in some areas which is something to consider.
