What is the EPG Updater supposed to do?

Hi. I run Kodi 16.1 and its' Stalker Client it works well except for the guide. I am trying to find out exactly what is supposed to happen when:
1. I clear guide data which files if any get deleted.
2.What does the EPG Updater do? which files if any get deleted / updated
3. How many hours is the guide supposed to be? seems very short

I ask because if I clear guide data in settings the epg_xmltv.xml and tv database are still there. The guide itself seems to be 36 hrs long after that it is blank. I tried disabling Live TV clearing data and re-enabling TV, it loads the guide but it is the same as before and the Guide.zip has the same created on date. If I manually delete the Guide.zip, epg_xmltv.xml, TV29db and re-enable Live TV I get unable to load guide and have to restart Live TV 2 or 3 times to get the guide to load again and the Guide.zip will have been replaced by a newer copy. Also from reading on the threads it says the epg_xmltv.xml will be stored in special/temp, mine is stored in C:\Users\Mork\AppData\Roaming\Kodi\cache. Any pointers or threads I should read to correct my problems please give me a heads up. Thanks
