VLC to add Chromecast support

The popular VLC media player is getting Google Chromecast support with its next release.

According to a changelog from the developers, VLC will provide streaming to the HDMI dongle.

VLC is a free and open source cross-platform multimedia player and framework that plays most multimedia files as well as DVDs, Audio CDs, VCDs, and various streaming protocols.

It plays everything: Files, Discs, Webcams, Devices and Streams, and most codecs with no codec packs needed: MPEG-2, DivX, H.264, MKV, WebM, WMV, MP3, and more. It runs on all platforms: Windows, Linux, Mac OS X, Unix, Android, and now again available for the iPad, iPhone, and iPod Touch on Apple’s App Store.
