Need more info if you want help.
Network setting , type of drive ?, router , is drive NAS or attached thru usb on your router , ect
I have a cheap dlink dns323 (old) and works perfect across a wireless network thru a 8 port switch
Hope you got it working

I am trying to connect to a win7 and or an xp computer that has all my music and videos on them. Going through Linksys router. Both systems can be seen from the box but even after setting user id's and passwords, they still do not connect. All folders are shared with proper rights and still will not connect.

I had a similar issue in the past with another "box" and it had something to do with the password of the user I was using. All I did to make it work is remove any "special" characters in my password like $%^&*() and it started to work.
Not saying this is the issue, but it's worth a try.
