I have no experience using VPN on set top box but been using VPN on Kodi in PC. You can setup a VPN in your router. I am using this VPN service very reliable and easy to setup.

I've been using a VPN for a while now. I personally use TorGuard (https://torguard.net/) but thas just me. They have all kinds of how to guides including how to setup your router.

Sorry for the lack of knowledge and for intruding on this thread. Whats the reason one would use a VPN instead of direct connecting?

One reason would be to disguise your IP traffic so your ISP can not see what you are running. Another reason may be your ISP is blocking content that you wish to see and a VPN will allow you to do that.

No I understand that. My question was more specifically related to IPTV service, is there a reason normally I would need to mask my traffic in order to use iptvprivateserver or iptvrocket for example?

I have installed vpn dd-wrt firmware on my router. What do I need to do in order for it to connect TVonline? I got it to work with kodi, dreamt and other apps however I cannot get it to work with tvonline. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

I have two avov boxes, one wired and one wireless. The wireless box have a download speed of 5.67mbs and it runs ok. My wired box have 27.02mbs and it runs great. However when I connect to my wired box to the vpn router it is down to 12.56mbs and I cannot connect to any US channels. The foreign channels works great but not the US channels. Have anyone else experienced this problem?

No, I just have my wired router connected to the avov box. I know vpn slows down the connection so I checked my wireless connection (it works) but it is running slower than my wired connection with vpn. So I assume it must be the vpn. Like I said, I can connect to all the foreign channels but the only US channel I can get is CSPAN. It must have something to do with the vpn.

What VPN are you using? Are you connection to a us server or local server? Honestly it sounds like a routing issue on the VPN address you selected I would try a host closer to your location.

I am using Private Internet Access (PIA). I am using the closest one to my location and the one with the fastest download speed. Seems to me that I would be able to get the USA channels before I can connect to the foreign channels.

Problem solved. I did an iptv reset, now I can access US channels.
