Hello,

Aside from IPTV, I am using my Mag254 also for watching films from a harddisk connected through USB port. I was wondering if it was possible to transfer a movie file from my PC which is on the same network to Mag, using an FTP application (Filezilla, etc...). This would save me from disconnecting and connecting HDD and walking between PC and Mag every time I download a new movie.

I could do it with my Enigma2 receiver before. Can I do it with Mag, as well?

Why don't you just use DLNA and stream it from your computer? Programs like Universal Media Server are free and work well from my Mac. There is a PC version too.

Streaming from computer works well with small sized files, but for HD movies (mkv files) there are flaws such as glitches or freezing. The file must be physically attached to the device.

If your having those problems you need to look into your system. If your talking about not being able to use mkv or other file types, then you can either convert the file to an acceptable file or find a program that either accepts that file or transcodes it to be usable. Isedora might work well. I use it for streaming music.

There are many streaming programs free or not. I grant you can't stream certain live running channels like m3u8 on most, but the Mag254 does have an IPTV app and it works quite well.

PS: To get back to your original question, YES you can attach a USB source. Goto Media Browser and look for the source, but the same transcoding problem may still be there. If the Mag254 won't play the file you'll still have to convert it to an acceptable file.

In order to clear a misunderstanding: I can play mkv files without a problem. And I know I can attach a USB source; actually that is what I'm doing at the moment. My question is: how can I send a file from my PC to the USB source which is attached to Mag254. They are both on the same network.

I would think you'd need a program that allows you to see the hard drive on your network, some how mount the Mag254 or send the file to a cloud and use the mag254 browser to download it to the hard drive.

I have no idea if any of that will work, so you might want to contact Informir tech and ask them.
