after nfps has changed many of their channels to 480i my box does occasionally show interlace flicker, some boxes show lines depending on which method is used to deinterlace the video or not deinterlace if it is capable. not deinterlacing is how it is meant to be shown, but this also gives flicker, and possibly other issues on lcd tv's, but nowadays lcd/led tv's can also countermeasure this in various ways since most sat/cable HD broadcast is in 1080i.

to get around with a setting most boxes can do; bring up the video settings while a channel is playing and set deinterlace method to software blend. leave deinterlace video to auto and set as default for all media to save the settings if you like them.

note: not all boxes/tv's does this and not all boxes have this option some might have better ones than bob, weave, or blend, and in theory it does degrade the video a bit depending on which of the lesser evil you prefer :) I personally can not see it and prefer this mode. hopefully we will see 1080i at some point since using this method cuts the bandwidth in half.

deinterlacing video is complex to do perfectly, do a search in google on the word to see what the different modes does to the picture.
also kodi 16 seems to do a better job than previus versions, at least on android thanks to the updated mediacodec surface, make sure this is on btw.

i'm using a firetv (1st gen) that displays interlace correctly with kodi 16 on tv's and also has the option to blend the fields, if anyone interested.

You are a very very knowledgeable person, and i enjoy reading your posts. I have to disagree with you on jarvis,i tried it and the live channels were of inferior picture quality than that on kodi 15.2,so had to switch back.
